Sing Your Dance in New Brunswick
It is clearly beneficial in so many ways to learn the lyrics and meaning of a song that you dance to. Many performers now lip sync the words as they dance – fun to do and to watch when it’s good. But what happens when you actually sing the song – really explore the endless mystery of your own voice as you meet the gorgeous filigree of scales and ornaments in Arabic music. Your voice is part of your body and the relationship between the inner architecture of supported and fluid singing is so resonant with the makings of good bellydance.
In this workshop, Roula will teach a beloved Egyptian song. We will work on the pronunciation and meaning of the words in a fun and efficient way. There is information even in the sounds of the Arabic language that is useful for bellydancers.
Using all the goodness of the Deep Architecture of Bellydance as a support for soundmaking, Roula will guide is through some yummy vocal explorations leading to the singing of our song.
Then she will teach a structured improvisation to the song which each dancer can then ornament and elaborate to feel like it’s the expression of her own true emotions having journeyed into the song so deeply.
