We are spiraling up to summer and riding a wave of warmth and sunshine! The summer schedule is approaching. This means shorter terms and more specialized focus. There’s some exciting offerings on the way and a little something for everyone from bellydance technique, performance based instruction to wellness exercise.
The garden is already growing out of control! This is just the coach house – You should see the rest! We’re already out in the garden taking pictures. It’s hard to resist! This is also because we all wore tie dye to class. And the next day we all wore shades of blues and greens. Funny how that happens! Thank you to garden owner and foodie goddess, Naoimi D for the taking this picture of us!
The dancers at Om Laila also recently performed at The Healing Market. We did this show back in December. It’s a lot of fun to perform for people that have an interest in wellness because belly dance really is a healthy, emotionally and physically fulfilling activity! It’s so wonderful to share love through dance in the best way possible – by dancing! Thank you Michael Zander for the pic!

Our space is more than just a bellydance studio and we need a class to reflect that! We provide classes that span a range of artistic and self-healing topics across the schedule and this class will offer a taste of everything from bellydance, finger cymbals, sensual fitness, Seven Waves exercise and more.
The first class is free and if you like it we recommend at least 4 classes to find your groove at the studio. This class will help you determine your next step!

Om Laila’s Badass Bellydance Bash
Om Laila and Nomadica had an amazing show on Saturday night at Mây Cafe. Many of our friends came out to see us perform and to celebrate the start of the holiday season. Soloists, Melissa Gamal, Michelle MacAleese and Miruna Soiu rocked their performances and Om’s students also brought it in a big way!! Here’s the videos from the performing classes. The first is the Om Laila Bellydance Choir’s back to back number Ala Warag il Foul and the Zill/Drum Solo, which was also a collaboration between level 3 and the Musical Dancer class.
The second video is the level 2’s performing La Te Tab Alayee

Om Laila has been busy working toward improving the experience and relationship with our students. Here’s a few things to look forward to:
- Om Laila is making it easier than ever before to register for classes or to schedule a demo to try a class. You can register by clicking here.
- New (and groovy, have to say) lighting has been set up to guide you to the secret treehouse studio. Sometimes you have to go through darkness to get to the light…but not when you’re on your way to class!
- The next studio show is on December 13th. If you haven’t joined the event group, please do and share your enthusiasm with us and our guests. Here is the event group.
- New beginner classes will be added to the schedule in the New Year and your old favourites will remain the same. If you know a friend that wants to try belly dancing, pick up some postcards the next time you’re in the studio and tell them about us!
The new studio just passed its first birthday! If you have taken classes or workshops at the studio, or have seen our shows, we ‘d love to hear feedback either privately by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or by writing us a testimonial. It would be greatly appreciated! Little businesses need like Om Laila need your help to spread the word!

Okay, one more picture from the last show…because we really like it!

Meeting Roula in her studio setting for the first time, the most poignant sensation I experienced was that she provides a dynamic, safe space where one instantly knows it is okay to be a “real person.” For me, this is a core factor when it comes to being able to tap fully into my creativity in an honest way. Roula is so authentic, natural, earthy, in-the-moment, sensitive, accepting, modestly confident of her own knowledge and talent – and observant without being judgmental – that I think it would be near-impossible for even the most timid and uncertain of people to feel uncomfortable for long.
Navigating this planet as woman in a world that often seems threatened by female empowerment is very difficult. Learning to embrace one’s own strengths and talents in an unapologetic way is even more challenging. But sometimes finding places (whether physical or otherwise) – especially in group settings – where just being one’s natural, sensual, creative, imperfect, laughing, crying, inspired, frustrated, embodied Female Self is the challenge of all challenges. Roula creates an atmosphere where it feels okay to be strong and weak at the same time but, almost more importantly, she magically does it in a way that generates supportive, loving and sisterly bonds amongst everyone in the room. Roula creates magic.
